En-ROADS Simulation Model

We have partnered with Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative to share En-ROADS to audiences in South Florida, including high schools, universities, businesses, local governments and community groups.

What is En-ROADS?
En-ROADS is a global computer simulation model. En-ROADS simulates the long-term (up to year 2100) impacts of policy actions available to mitigate global warming e.g., policies affecting energy production and use, energy efficiency, fuel mix, emissions prices, land use, and other crucial factors that can mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. En-ROADS is grounded in the best peer-reviewed science and evidence about climate impacts, solutions and the complex interactions of the climate, energy, land, population and economic nexus. This simulation model enables users such as yourself to access powerful analysis at your fingertips.

How can you participate?
You can host an event using En-ROADS. There are two group event formats: (1) Workshop & (2) Role-playing Game.
Both events can be run online using Zoom or other web conferencing tools.

En-ROADS Workshop Overview (1 - 1.5 hours)
  • Quick lesson on the basics of climate change and how it will impact your community
  • Engage the audience in solving climate change by using the En-ROADS simulation model
  • Group debriefing discussion where we consider our feelings and tough questions such as: what does this mean for your community and how can an individual take effective action?

En-ROADS "Climate Action Simulation" Role-playing Game Overview (2- 3 hours)
Climate Action Simulation is a team roleplaying game modeled as a mock UN summit to urgently address climate change. Participants roleplay as influential stakeholder groups who have been convened at the summit. Their directive is to work together to negotiate a policy plan to limit global warming to below 2°C and aim for 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, the international goals formally recognized in the Paris climate agreement.

How are these experiences valuable?
Climate Interactive's simulations have been delivered to audiences in 88 countries around the world including to the White House and UN. It is a unique interactive format to learn about energy, land and policy solutions that can most effectively mitigate greenhouse gases, solutions such as renewable energy and carbon price. It places people in a problem solving mode, and it helps people learn about which solutions are highest leverage and what scale of solutions and collaboration is really required to mitigate global warming to less than 2°C. These games have been measured to significantly increase participants' knowledge about climate change solutions while changing their attitudes and motivation to change behavior.

Interested in Hosting an Event?
  • From You/ Your Organization - Provide an event location, date & time, refreshments and invite people from your community.
  • From Us -  Linda Cheung will come to facilitate the event. We can bring a projector if necessary and all the materials. We can provide a marketing flyer that you can share.

Please email linda@vrbitl.org if you are interested in getting involved in this program. We are happy to facilitate an event or help you get started on becoming a trained facilitator.
