We understand that due to COVID-19, school participation will be more challenging. However we encourage teachers to try to run the Earth Week Challenge for their classrooms virtually, if they feel inspired.
Dear Teachers & Student Leaders,
What is the 7 Day Challenge?
The 7 Day Challenge is a fun way for students to learn about how they can take action to fight climate change and build a more sustainable world together. This regional school campaign is organized by local nonprofits Before It’s Too Late, Dream In Green and Green Schools Recognition Program. Thousands of school children across South Florida will take this challenge on the week of Earth Day from April 19 - 25, 2021.
Our team has worked hard to create a challenge that is fun and easy for students, teachers and parents to follow.

Teacher’s Facilitation Plan
Before the Challenge Week:
- Learn about each of the days in the 7 Day Challenge by looking through our guide at http://www.beforeitstoolate.earth/7-day-guidebook.
- Prepare your lesson plan and materials for how you will facilitate the challenge for your classroom. You can look through our Teacher’s Toolkit for ideas on classroom activities. As the teacher, you know best at what level and how much information to share with your students.
- Promote the challenge to other teachers and across your school to encourage more signups.
- Share the letter to parents and ask for signed media release forms.
- The Week Before: Share our Welcome Video (link coming soon) and Student Guide/Daily Journal Template to introduce your students to the challenge.
During the Challenge Week:
- Lead your classroom(s) or school through the 7 Day Challenge!
- You will receive an email by 6 pm the night before (from sender [email protected]) with instructions for the day’s challenge.
- At the lower grade levels, you should check in and teach the students about the new challenge at the beginning of each day. At the higher grade levels, you may not meet with your students everyday. Therefore, use each classroom meeting to check in and teach them about the challenges as you deem appropriate.
- We recommend that teachers assign the daily journal to be completed for class credit, as homework or during class time. Younger children may require teacher and parental support with their journals.
- Encourage your students to take photos of them completing the challenge at home with their family and post to social media using our hashtags #earthweekchallenge and tagging us @bitl.earth on Instagram or Facebook.
Recommended Classroom Agenda for each day of the week:
- Ask students how yesterday went, and if anyone wants to share their journal.
- Introduce the day’s challenge. Show our video for the day. (Show Saturday and Sunday’s videos on Friday)
- Lead a classroom activity. See our Teacher’s Toolkit for ideas for each day.
- Remind students to write in their daily journal as homework.
After the Challenge Week:
- We will be sending a Teacher Feedback Survey to learn about your experience and how we can improve the challenge for next year.
- Please send your favorite photos and student journals from the week. Please obtain student and parent permission through our media waiver form. We want to share your inspiring stories through our social media and potentially the press or public art exhibits in order to grow this movement.
